Project Profile: National Institutes of Health Division of Extramural Activities

MAI assisted the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to transition to and implement the Government’s Most Efficient Organization (MEO) - the Division of Extramural Activities Support (DEAS) - as the result of an A-76 study. At the time of implementation, DEAS was comprised of approximately 650 FTE over 25 of the 27 Institutes and Centers (IC). Implementation support included participating in numerous committees such as Communication, Administration and Staffing, and the Transition Center, and analyzing position descriptions, workload, staffing, and existing contracts. MAI also assisted in reviewing applications and resumes for positions in the new organization, developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and training DEAS staff and customers on an automated workload and tracking system, SOPs, and the Performance Work Statement (PWS).

Support for DEAS has continued past implementation to include a re-engineering effort to address changes in workload and processes.
