Transportation Public-Private Partnerships Soar to Record Levels
U.S. Transportation Secretary Mary E. Peters announced the number of public-private partnerships in the U.S. transportation sector has soared to record levels in recent years and continues to climb. According to a new Department study on the private sector role in U.S. highway and transit infrastructure, the use of PPPs continues to increase due to their success in relieving congestion and encouraging infrastructure development. This study was announced at the groundbreaking of a PPP project with the Commonwealth of Virginia to construct High Occupancy Toll lanes on the Capital Beltway.

U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service Announces New PPP for a Sustainable Environment
The Conservation Fund (the Fund) and U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (FWS) announced the restoration of 775 acres of forestland at Marais des Cygnes National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) near Kansas City. The new oak, hickory and pecan trees will restore sensitive wildlife habitat, enhance public recreation areas and address climate change by trapping more than 230,000 tons of carbon dioxide as the trees grow.
